Essence and Influence

Southcentral Kentucky’s landscape is truly sonic – one where sound connects, inspires, and influences everyone and everything. From the sounds of the rivers and rails that we travel, to the accents, instruments, and glass-clinking when we are together, sound is the landscape of our lives.

Within this landscape reside the musicians whose stories reflect our own. From the front porch jams and mama’s parlors to night clubs and Grammy stages, musicians take the sounds of our lives and capture them into minutes that echo our thoughts and feelings into eternity. In capturing these stories, we demonstrate that their contributions are alive, evolving, and influential. We capture something thought to be intangible and prove that even memories, moments, and music can be tangibly collected and preserved so that their stories – and the stories of our sonic heritage – are never forgotten.

Within that heritage are the many musicians and music producers/promoters who support our sonic landscape. Below are their stories. Please note that this section is not all-inclusive, and will continue to be added to as this project and its associated research evolves and grows.
