Tommy Womack

Tommy is the lead guitarist and writer for Government Cheese and the author of the books  The Cheese Chronicles and 30 Years Shot to Hell. The members of the band housed together and formed their band during their college years of living off of Cooks Beer, Lee’s Fried Chicken, and surplus government issued cheese – even trying to lure  a rat with the cheese,  with no luck. The band name soon followed. “The Cheese” went from playing frat parties to playing regularly at Michael’s Pub and Picasso’s. Finding more success became a fixation for Womack: “I was obsessed with this band making it, nothing else mattered.” They got creative with the show antics by dressing up or playing theme songs from popular shows. Womack has great memories of some of Bowling Green’s iconic venues, such as the Literary Club and Michael’s Pub. They sold out Picasso’s the first night they played there, which helped the band gain a local following. . They started touring, becoming popular in Louisville and Lexington. They signed a record deal with Reptile Records and released videos on MTV and VH1. Womack is also known for his being a member of the Nashville band, The Bis-Quits.
