David Dye

David is a barber and musician who has lived in Bowling Green since the 1960s. He grew up in a family of musicians and learned to play fiddle from his father. While living in Ohio County, David developed a love of Bluegrass – where he says he got his roots. He learned to play guitar and bass, and started playing in bands after moving to Bowling Green. His barber shop on Old Morgantown Road became a gathering place for local pickers such as Charlie Bush and his young son, Sam, who needed a box placed on the barber chair to hold his own with the adult  musicians.

“Lot of people are pretty good musicians but will never be known because they don’t play nowhere but their back porch…people come out of them hills with their old banjo or fiddle and absolutely wear it out, it was unreal…that's what really entices you.”
