Pat Haney

Pat is a songwriter and musician from Bowling Green. He describes himself as eclectic and says “No rhyme or reason to any of it, just jumped into what I enjoyed.”

Pat started out writing poetry, but realized that putting his words to music would make them more accessible to people. Influenced by his parents, his musical influences come from the records they bought him: Simon & Garfunkel, John Denver, and John Prine. His writings focus on the Southcentral Kentucky region, his relationships, family, and personal experiences. Overall, his style has been described as “Americana.”

Pat’s musical career began by playing the open mic nights at Mr. C’s (now Hilligan’s). He soon signed a record deal and began touring all over the US. He has played venues all over the country and some local favorites, like Picasso’s. He attended WKU and minored in Women’s Studies, one of the first males to do so.

“Won’t Be Over No Coal” and “The Bathtub Song” are some of his favorites of the songs that he has written, and they get requested often. He still writes music regularly and plays occasionally. While Pat has often played solo, he has also played with many influential musicians from Bowling Green, like Tommy Womack. He works in Nashville occasionally, often to write for up-and-coming musicians.

“I still write, I get calls from Nashville, I’ve got some friends down there that have taken jobs on Music Row and I guess to maybe co-write with some of these new country people and the objective, I think, is to- sort of, roughen up some of their stuff to where it’s a little bit more realistic”.
